Monday 30th March

Good Morning,

I hope you have all had a wonderful weekend. I am sharing all the work for this week today. From the quiz Friday, many of you were happy with daily tasks set and a larger project, however some would like to know what to expect for the rest of the week. With this in mind, I have suggested which activities to do each day and will continue to add a blog daily with these activities. However, all the activities are available all week, so you can pick and choose what to focus on. My advice would be ‘eat the frog’- do the bits you like least first, then everything gets better!

Y5 Maths

Monday: Arithmetic Quiz (Google Classroom)

Tuesday: MyMaths Fractions to Decimals

Wednesday: MyMaths Modelling fractions and percentages

Thursday: MyMaths Frac Dec Perc 1

Friday: NRich activity found here: https://nrich.maths.org/1249

Y6 Maths– look on the Y6 blog (I will add it here when I can.)

Other work

Monday: Fix the punctuation (Google Classroom)

Tuesday: Reading Comprehension WW1 (Google Classroom)

Wednesday: April Crossword (Google Classroom) Optional extra for fun.

Thursday: Vocabulary Quiz (Google Classroom)

Friday:  Make it fly Science activity (Instructions shared in Google Classroom)Optional extra, but lots of fun!

Project

WW1 project: Use research and knowledge you already have to create a presentation all about World War 1.

On Google classroom, I have included a link to the BBC bitesize page which we have been using in school. Here are some suggestions of things to include: causes; solider recruitment and pals battalions; life in the trenches; men’s role (front line and home front); women’s role (front line and home front). There is also some interesting information about weapons and animals that you might want to include. You might have other ideas to add too as you do your research. I’m really looking forward to reading them on Friday!

Ongoing activities

TTRS battle VS the Y6 class. Battle starts at 9am today and finishes Friday at 4pm. They are already feeling very competitive after we beat them last time. Let’s make sure we win again!

Reading on MyOn. Last week we read for 842 minutes. Can we beat it? Don’t worry if you’re reading ‘real’ books instead- they are just as important!

Something physical. There are so many links to videos you can use including Joe Wicks. Or you could enjoy going for a walk with your family (keeping your distance from others) whilst spotting rainbows or playing in the garden.

The most important thing to remember is to stay safe and keep smiling! If there is anything you need, let me know.

Wednesday 25th March

Good Morning,

Well done for you continued efforts at home. Please keep going with your stories and Space presentations, they look great so far! Make sure you are also making time to be active too. If you haven’t already done so, login to Google Classroom and look at the tasks on there for this week (An adventure story and A Space Presentation).

Y5 Maths

There will be another task on MyMaths today:  Adding and Subtracting Fractions

English

I have added a grammar quiz for you to do today. See how many you can get right.

Try something a bit different:

Pete McKee is an artist from Sheffield and will be doing virtual cartoon workshops starting today.  I would love to see what you create, so upload a photo to Google Classroom if you have a go! Here is what was posted about it:

Pete will be posting cartoon workshop lessons every Wednesday starting tomorrow, for the next few weeks. As he has done similar workshops before, which have always been well-received, we thought this would be a nice way to offer children, and adults too, something fun and creative to help break up the day, keeping young minds active in addition to their school work. Anyone can take part in these videos which will be uploaded to the Pete McKee YouTube channel. All you’ll need is a few pieces of paper, or whatever’s lying around, card, scrap paper etc., and some pencils or pens. The videos will be posted at 12pm for whoever is interested! Here is the link to our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjpNMIjkGJ-vxuOhsN2xxTA

As always, please continue with reading and TTRS(and Lexia if you have it).

Have a lovely day!

Tuesday 24th March

Good Morning,

Well done for your fantastic effort so far! I have seen lots of you on Google classroom, TTRS, MyOn and My Maths. It was also nice to see that lots of you enjoyed the Joe Wicks PE- it is on everyday so join in again today at 9am! Joe Wicks PE

I know some of you are whizzing through the tasks and others might not have had time to get started. Please do what is right for you at this time and don’t worry if you haven’t made a start yet. If you cannot access the work or do not have time, please let me know.

If you are having any issues logging into Google Classroom, please contact Mrs Sadler (k.sadler@stwilfridssheffield.co.uk). Any other questions, let me know on the stream in Google Classroom.

Project

Lots of you have made an amazing effort with the space presentations so far. Please remember this is something for you to work on throughout the week, so you can do some each day. I have found that it is most helpful to ‘Hand in’ your work onto the classwork, NOT on the stream. There is a purple ‘Hand in’ button underneath your presentation, press this when it is completely finished. I will have a look at them all on Friday.

English

I have added a story task to Google Classroom, you have the whole week to work on this. You might want to begin by drawing a storyboard or creating a plan before writing the story itself.  I will be looking at these on Friday.

If you have a Lexia account please work on this too!

Y5 Maths

Each day this week, another MyMaths task will appear.

Y6 Maths

The following maths should be completed by the end of this week (this is from the Y6 blog).

Maths Arithmetic paper 8 (copy provided). Answers on homework page of blog . Please go through any errors

My Maths revision – Ratio introduction homework Y6 task, Ratio dividing 1 Y6 task. Use the lesson tab to go through the learning again if needed. Rememeber, you are aiming for a minimum of 80%.

Monday 23rd March

Good Morning,

I hope you are all doing well.

Project

This week’s ‘project’ is to create a PowerPoint all about space. Remember you have all week to work on this. I have created this in Google Classroom and you should be able to save this and allow me to mark it. I will look at them on Friday.

  • Login to Google Classroom
  • Choose Year 5/6 (accept your request if you haven’t already!)
  • Go to Classwork (at the top)
  • Select the Space Powerpoint

This should open your presentation in GoogleDocs for you to work on and save. To help with this I have set you some reading on MyOn. To find these books:

  • Login to MyOn
  • Choose ‘Projects’ at the top of the page
  • Choose ‘Space Project’

There will be 10 books for you to choose from. You do not have to read them all but they have lots of interesting facts and it shows you are using our science superhero: ‘Billy Bookhead’.  You might also like to use your own knowledge as well as research from the internet or books you might have at home.

Test Quiz

Today, I have also set you a test quiz on Google Classroom- try to find it on the classwork tab at the top. These could be a fun way of completing our learning.

Year 6 Maths

You should look at the Y6 blog for your maths work.

Year 5 Maths

Today’s maths is on MyMaths: Equivalent Fractions. I have set the homework but you will also be able to access the ‘lesson’ if you want to revise your skills first.

PE

Please remember to get some exercise as well. I have seen that Joe Wicks is doing a daily PE Lesson in a morning- I might even join in!

Most importantly, remember to look after yourselves and your family! What can you do to make someone smile today?

Working from home

Hello,

I hope you are all safe and well and have had a lovely weekend. For this week, I plan to upload some work each day and set a larger ‘project’ task to be completed over the week. I am very aware that everyone will have different circumstances and will have different amounts of time for working. If you can’t do a task on a set day, don’t worry. We will all take some time to settle into this new way of working- it is new for me too! If you are finding things difficult please let me know- I am here to help. The aim of this week is to get used to all the new things we will be using, so please don’t be afraid to let me know how things are going for you.

One thing which I think looks good fun is Joe Wicks is doing live PE lessons at 9am every day. I look forward to joining in tomorrow!

https://www.youtube.com/thebodycoachtv

Another thing  we could try tomorrow is this:

Starting tomorrow there will be a live webinar from an English teacher starting at 9:45am. It is for children of all ages and parents/carers are encouraged to take part too. If you follow the link below it give you some more information. All you need is a pen and some paper (yoou could use your book and pen from the pack I gave you). It looks really interesting and a great way to begin the week. Don’t worry if you can’t watch it live – the video will be available to watch at any time of the day.

Look at the blog Monday morning for an update on the project for this week as well as the days tasks.

Look after yourselves,

Miss Cheetham x

For children unable to come into school at the moment

As I’m sure you are all aware the number of children who are absent from school has increased this week. The trend is likely to increase as the week progresses, especially with the advice recommending whole households to isolate if one person has symptoms. I fully appreciate this is a challenging time for us all.  For those children who are absent from school, I would recommend working through the CGP grammar books (both Y5 and Y6) and year 6 should work through the ten minute maths tests. I will aim to upload further things for children to do in the coming days. The usual platforms such as TimesTables rockstars, MyOn and MyMaths are available to all children.

In school, we will continue to follow the advice sent to us and maintain a calm approach to the situation. The children have shown a really positive and mature approach following the advice, so thank you!

Look after yourselves and your families,

Miss Cheetham
