This week we have been completing the Taskmaster Children’s Mental Health Week challenges. Each day there has been a clue to solve and hopefully we will complete the final clue and get onto the Wall of Fame today.
As well as this week’s homework, we also have a TimesTable Rockstars battle with Year 6. We encourage every child to take part in order to support their team to win.
I have been really impressed with the way year 5/6 have settled into our routine this week. We have begun our full timetable of lessons and the children have all tried really hard.
In English we have started our new class novel- Beowulf by Michael Morpurgo. I think a few of us have quite enjoyed the bloodthirsty Grendel’s destructive nature however can’t wait to find out how Beowulf will stand up against it.
In maths, year 6 have had a great start in their new groups and both Mrs Pearson and Mrs Goodchild have been really impressed. I have been so pleased with the year 5’s who have worked really hard all week.
To end our week we have been doing some cheer dance. We learnt the moves and I challenged the children to see if they could remember them all. They were very fast and have very good memories- I’ll have to find a trickier challenge for next week!
Last week, we wrote poems for remembering the Queen. We watched a special episode of news round telling us all about her life. It was interesting and we learned a lot. Here is the picture of the poems.
It has been lovely to get to know the children this week and to begin our year in such a positive way. I have been so impressed with the way that the children have settled into many of our routines and I’m sure they will be just as fantastic as we get into our normal timetable next week.
There have been so many highlights this week. One of my favourites was an RE lesson reflecting on talents and attributes. The children went around the classroom writing down their thoughts about each other. It was so great to hear the kind words they had to describe each other. What a wonderful group of children we have.
Although the week ended on a sombre note with the passing of The Queen, it gave an opportunity for our children to demonstrate their empathy and kindness. The children created some beautiful poems which both myself and Mrs Connolly were really impressed and moved by. The thoughtfulness and effort shown made us really proud.
Well done Y5/6; we are really looking forward to the year ahead.
We have had a great week- this is some of the stuff we have been doing!
In these top pictures we are doing an activity where you are in a group of two, one of the two will look at a picture and try and describe it to the other one. The other one will try and draw it with their description. This was really fun!
This time we used the water colours to create an R.E picture.
I hope you have all had a wonderful summer and are ready to come back for an amazing autumn term.
For the first week, we will be spending lots of time getting to know each other and what year 5/6 will be like. Over the week, we will talk about what to expect from the year and all the fantastic things we plan to get up to. If parents have any questions please don’t hesistate to email the office or catch me at the end of the day.
Later in the week, we will send out a class information letter with the curriculum coverage for the term as well as arrangements for homework etc.
PE Days will be Thursday and Fridays.
Homework will be given on Wednesdays and due in Tuesdays.
Spellings will be given Mondays and will be tested on Fridays.
On Monday, we had a fabulous time pond dipping and investigating our own questions. There were lots and lots of newts to be found!
Yesterday, we had a lovely morning sharing science with the Y2 class. It was lovely to hear the children explaining their science to the younger children and they listened so carefuly to the year 2’s and asked some really thoughtful questions. We then enjoyed a nature walk in the playground and woods. The Y5/6’s were excellent role models for the younger children and were so kind and caring in the way they looked after them. What a lovely experience!
